When weddings go ...uhm ... WRONG!

A big part, if not the biggest, of our job, Is to read people. This makes it possible for us to be on point with music selections.

Having to sit through countless speeches, which sadly a lot of people get from the internet, can sometimes be painful because you have heard it so many times that you can complete the speech.  But then you get those folks that go all out with creativity. Or they are so nervous that they slip up.  I have many stories to tell. But today I want to talk about a wedding I did at Green Leaves Wedding venue.

The groom was busy with his speech. And when it came to the part talking about his in-laws he slipped up big time.  Instead of saying:  “Ek will graag vir my nuwe skoon ouers dankie sê…”

He said: “Ek will graag vir my nuwe skoon EIERS dankie sê…”

I was dead. Haven’t laughed that much in a long time, and while I am writing this I have to compose myself again.  I could not look at the groom with a straight face after that.  It took me 15 minutes to get over that. Got so bad that I had to walk out of the venue to try and compose myself.  But, wait that is not where the laughter ended.

For those of you that have been to this venue, you will know the floor is very slippery. Now in the Stables venue, there is a stage in front that is a few inches high.  The bride was getting ready to have mains. At this stage, I was in the bar to get something for the throat. The next moment we hear a big bang. As I walked back into the main venue I saw a sight that I won’t easily forget. The laughing started all over. It looked like I wanted to leopard crawl as I almost fell to the ground laughing.

The bride tried to move the chair a bit forward. And with the floor being very slippery, she went too far. The main table ended up on the floor with all table decorations and flowers, with their drinks, and food.  I have a good laugh every time I think or talk about this wedding.

Needless to say, it was a party for the books. I finished something like 2 am the following morning.  The bridal couple’s guests will forever remember the evening and talk about it with a smile on their faces, for more than one reason!
